For many years, Peter Getz
has been among the small circle of gifted singers and
musicians that only gifted singers and musicians know
about. Studio session work for jazz big bands has been
mixed with musical roles in Les Miserables, Guys &
Dolls and other shows.
You could say that Peter’s last name is one-third
of his inheritance. Another third consists of his outstanding
musicality. And the final third consists of an old saxophone
in an even older and more worn-out case: Stan Getz’s
saxophone. Peter is the son of one of the world’s
absolute greatest jazz legends of all time, Stan Getz.
Peter Getz has just put the finishing touches on BossaMySoul,
his first solo CD. One of the tracks is called “Remembrances”
and has a lyric that reflects the mystical father-son
relationship between Peter and Stan Getz. “Remembrances”
features a piano solo recorded in Los Angeles by the
song’s composer, Mike Lang, who was also Stan
Getz’s pianist. “The music is basically
a distinct genre that blends together airy soul with
Brazilian Bossa Nova rhythms along with a hint of light,
jazz-blues: music that is happy and easy to listen to
without being superficial.”
Bossamysoul features many of Sweden’s best studio
musicians. Everything is acoustic; nothing is pre-recorded
or sampled. Live strings come in like waves on a beach;
the harmonica and lap steel add an exotic flavor to
the genre, and the saxophone or flute serves as the
perfect duet partner for Peter’s smooth, heartfelt
vocals. |
